Hoovervilles
As economy was beginning to worsen in the 1930s, millions of jobless and homeless americans desperate for a place to stay began residing in shacks and shanties along the outskirts of cities all across the United States. many veterans returning from world war 1 also, having no place to stay, began living in the shacks. President Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) was blamed for the intolerable economic and social conditions, and the shantytowns that cropped up across the nation, primarily on the outskirts of major cities, became known as Hoovervilles. The United States economy was at its worst point in history the little money Hoover had was being given the government, full of corrupt officials keeping the money for them selves. The poor and sick were getting no aid from the government. The government later had many hoovervilles burned by the army in shame.
