The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl was just another hardship people had to face during the Great Depression. It's name basically describes it all. The country was literally becoming so dry, that winds would pick up the top soil of farms and would create a cloud of dust. This was a tough time for farmers in the west. All their soil was getting picked up, bringing the seeds they planted along with it. It became so dry because of a drought that lasted for about 8 years. No crops grew because no rain fell to give water to the plants. The winds were so strong, some people reported seeing cars getting pushed 30 to 40 feet along the ground. Lights were no help when the dust storms blew over. Everything was dark, and the only thing people could do was wait it out. After it passed over, everything would have mounds of dust and dirt, so people had to dig their things out from the piles created.
